Phillip Ashton : The Peter Pan of the Adult World

August 15th, 2010 by aussieboy63

When people are asked about longevity in the adult entertainment industry, and who has been around for a while, a man whose record is frequently ignored is Phillip Ashton.  Perhaps it is indicative of the prejudices that exist in the adult filming world, that this very talented and seemingly ageless performer has not received the recognition he so deserves.

Phillip’s feet were the starting point for a career that has spanned over seven years, making his debut at 17 on ModelGuysFeet.com.  Of course he could do that because it was a foot fetish site and he remained clothed during the photo-shoot.

Since that time he truly has become the king of twink studios, having filmed for Boycrush, Helix, Thexis and of course Afton Nils in that time.  Just as he would say he is at the top of his game, his youthful looks and lithe body are now being used against him.  He has been branded “twink” which means that his previous employers no longer see him as a marketable commodity and the mainstream industry require him to bulk up considerably.

One of the secrets to his ongoing popularity has been that balance between keeping himself very much in his fan’s eyes, and avoiding having too many scenes out there.  I for one always looked forward to his scenes because he always makes sure that people watching get a show.  Unfortunately too many of the new scenes these days are becoming over-scripted or the models superficial.

However, let’s go back to where it all began when a very young man first showed his feet on ModelGuysFeet.com as Sky.  When asked about why he appeared as Sky on the site, Phillip had no idea because he had enrolled on the model forum as Phillip Ashton.  The now famous name came from Phillip and a friend throwing names around to match with Ashton, a name that Phillip had always loved.  In the end the photographer suggested Phillip and it was an instant hit and we have all enjoyed the work of Phillip Ashton since.

Phillip Ashton’s first hard-core scene was with Alex Toole at Boycrush but the scene was incomplete and he was kept very busy in his first session.  Of all of those initial scenes he still remembers the scene with Zachary Greene, a gorgeous Italian exchange student.

Since that first scene Phillip’s portfolio of work is very impressive, having at last count, worked for eighteen studios.  The key to his popularity is his professional approach to his work both in front of and behind the camera.  It has not been easy work though because Phillip has constantly had to overcome studio stereotyping during the latter part of his career.

As all of us who are fans of his work you would realise that Phillip is a true power top but has had to withstand studios trying to make him a bottom at varying stages of his career.  As Phillip says:

“I have been a power top in the twink world cause I won’t lie I am very good at what I do, I still get the stereotype that I’m a big bottom and just waiting to be a gangbang bottom which isn’t true. I have bottomed though on film at least 5 times I believe and I didn’t like it but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to make that money and a hot scene.”

It has been one thing that has always baffled me, this notion that to be a power top in the industry that you have to conform to some preconceived notion of size and build.  Phillip is a master of his craft, as anyone who saw his recent scene with Hayden Chandler would attest to.  I thought that there was genuine affection in this scene….almost like the industry pro looking after the new boy on the block. Although the scene was very sexy it come across as far more than that.   Phillip’s comment on that scene was:

“The scene with Hayden Chandler was fun, I tend to watch out for the newbies cause I am kinda big down there and I don’t wanna hurt the kid.”

It is now seven years since he first took the stage and it is a great achievement when you think that very few of the twink performers that started at the same time are still going.   His longevity is a credit to him because as he says:

“It’s tough to be honest with the drugs that are in this industry people go into a hole with that and they don’t come back and that’s the sad thing.”

He has been exposed to all of those pitfalls like his fellow performers, but he was very lucky to have a support network that was second to none.

“I have grown from then, if it wasn’t for my certain group of friends that love me I think I would be like some of these messy stars but thank god my friends snatched me up and taught me cause before I was young and didn’t give a fuck about testing and what to watch out for and all.

When I suggested that seven years in the industry is a great achievement and has he ever actually patted himself on the back.  His reply summed up his seven years perfectly:

“I look back and I am amazed I’m still in the industry and have a level head and not dropped out like other or on drugs or burned bridges with companies. No I haven’t ever patted myself on the back for still being in the industry I should though.”

It is a very tough industry and to not only have survived, but excelled at his craft and with such a wide-range of studios would suggest that it is well overdue.

As I alluded to earlier Phillip’s twink build and youthful looks are now being used against him and in any other industry it would be called discrimination.  As he says:

“I think it’s more the age thing with twinks who are 25 like myself and look 19. I don’t get that and it pisses me off that cause I’m 25 there’s a problem? If I’m a good performer then it should matter what my age is.”

The options that face twinks if they wish to stay in front of the camera are limited, with many being forced to “man-up” and become twunks or more muscular. For many with their light frames it is simply not possible to do so and in all honesty nor should they have to.  It is a throwback to the straight world that insists that a top must be more masculine, rather than judging what he does for the bottom.

Of course there is the option to go behind the camera and that is an area that Phillip has been expanding his knowledge over recent years.  Would he like to continue in that area?:

“OMG yes I am learning so much and I actually love it a lot! Something so different and I honestly I love it a lot and I think it’s easier for models cause I’m not some like old guy trying to hook up with them. I won’t say studios but there are some that are just wrong like that and will do shit like that and that makes me sick to my stomach that people can’t be professional.”

With that in mind has he ever thought about starting up his own site?

“Oh god yes I have been wanting this for a very long time, someone who I thought was a friend and worked for an all I thought was gonna turn my blog into that but of course that never happened so I am waiting for now but am told I should start it soon.”

“I wanna continue to direct and produce and then one day I hope to open my own company kinda like a RandyBlue SeanCody CorbinFisher ActiveDuty mix, I think that would be just delicious!”

I am sure I speak for many of us out here that are becoming more disillusioned with the way things are at the moment and it needs people like Phillip Ashton to perhaps reclaim the industry for the fans.  The other important aspect of that is that having been in the industry so long, Phillip would be able to assist new models in their journey through this challenging industry.

So with all of this time spent building his reputation in the industry, what impact has it had on his personal life.  Phillip has managed to maintain his private and personal life without any real dramas and has always maintained that you should never mix business with personal.

Is Phillip a romantic at heart?

LOL I actually am… When I’m with someone I am very romantic but I can also be a wild let’s get to it kinda guy as well, but I love being romantic and having hot loving making sex lol”

And how would he start the evening with a perfect date?

“Going to a dinner in St Tropez and having a dinner in the middle of the pool on a see though stage and hearing the waves crash up on the beach, seeing the sky clear and all the stars and then my beautiful bf or date looking into his eyes and just having a casual talk about anything that comes to mind.”

The Gay Adult Entertainment Industry needs more people like Phillip Ashton to remain in it both in front of and behind the camera because he has so much to offer.  It would be a travesty if his experience and passion were to be lost and studios need to stop packaging models into convenient stereotypes and instead recognize ability and professionalism.
